There is no such thing as too many gallons....just have to make sure and buttress up the floor boards  I most likely will do the indoor pond, so much easier to keep heated and maintain. Plus, you have your precious close by. Absolutely make the trip into Vancouver before the cat is gone. That ...

Silurus,
The suspense is killing me! I read that entire post, whatever became of those cats? Did the temp hike and meds prevail? Just curious. I appologize for going off topic.

I'm not worried about you "stuffing" Red Tails but I am curious how this "someone" is housing the four footer. I have a juvenile RTC and I swear I can hear him growing as we speak. He is currently about 6 inches....I am already shopping for pond liners and indoor pond possibilities. I've ...

It is quite obvious that an aquarium is out of the question for a mature RTC. Above ground tubs seem to be an easy affordable remedy. Here in the U.S. there are hardware stores that sell pre-fabricated pond liners that make building a pond very easy. Indoor applications are available as well, and so ...

I have read about cats vomiting. Is this a result of overeating? And yes, I understand this can dramatically affect water quality for the entire tank. I am guilty of breaking several Cardinal Rules of Fishkeeping. I was aware the RTC is not an aquarium species long before I aquired this one. I've ...

Interesting you should note that your cat eats his shedded slime coat. Mine didn't as it sloughed off in small bits, however, the Cyprichromis did. I figured it must contain some protein content or nutritious element. Secondly, I could have sworn that my cats head coloration appeared a lighter ...

I suspect there may have been an ammonia spike. Used to have a big fancy test kit, unfortunately, lent it out and never got it back. This is a long established tank planted with italian val which have spread along the entire sandy substrate. The mucous problem has abated. I believe I was simply ...

Sloughing off of slime coat?

Has anyone experienced this with a Red Tail Cat? I noticed it the other day, just a slight sloughing off of some areas of the skin. I've been doing daily partial water changes to ward off any accumulated ammonia levels. The cats color and activity are good, he is eating well, too well. And I am a ...

I would love to take a pic to post, unfortunately, I'd love to see the cat himself! I have a nicely planted tank with caves of lace rock, so, I rarely see him myself. He's found a really nice spot to relax in all day and I try to coax him out at night by turning out the lights and feeding the tank ...

Why is it there is the variations in tail color? And if the tail is not red, they are still considered Red Tails? Mine looks like an ordinary red tail, with the striking white streak down it's side and the spotted head, two small white dots beside the dorsal fin....except the tail is also grayish ...
