plecs aggressive to bettas?
just wondering if occasionally plecs can be aggressive to other fish like bettas coming down to the bottom to eat their food. i reckon plecs are territorial. i have recently placed a betta in with 2 gibbies, gold nugget and joselimaianus in 40 gallon, and notice the betta sometimes goes down to the ...

how big do common plecs grow?
hi there
i realise that there are different names and potentially different species with the name common plec, but with chocolate-coloured "albino" ones (not the albino gibbies) how big will they grow? on this website it says 30 cm max, but other resources i've found say 60 cm. that's a big ...

How many big plecs for a 6 footer?
hi there,
just wondering if i could fit a common albino plec to this set up.
am about to get a 6 foot tank made for my 2 gibbies, 2 joselimaianus (20 cm each max), one gold nugget (20 cm again) and newly acquired peppermint (about 15 cm max). probably have a siamese fighter with females as ...

thanks for your reply dancingdrayad. i think it's unlikely he's jumped out of the tank (hopefully anyway) - he is dominant to the other plecs (he chased everyone else round) and the tank is sealed pretty tight with a wooden cover over the glass lid.
hopefully i'll find him soon, with little babies ...

missing male bristlenose
hi there
can't seem to find my male common bristlenose in my 75 gallon tank. well established tank, parameters normal, female bristlenose and male yellow brislenose seem OK. recent unexplained death of female yellow balck eyed bristlenose has got me worried. lifted up one of the ornaments - no sign ...

hi
don't know why but my female yellow black eyed bn died couple days ago. she had been noticeably paler for a while, and hiding at the back a lot, hadn't seen her eating much, and had not been too active. water parameters all good, other bristlenoses healthy, lots of vegies and driftwood.

They are not too rare in NZ at least - i have bought 2 from my LFS recently, and have seen at least 2 others in the last couple of months. Sorry if it isn't a bristlenose, obviously you're quite keen on these, but gibbies esp albinos can be very beautiful and striking esp as they grow. they just ...

oh gosh, that doesn't sound good. i couldn't help myself and bought one anyway. there are so few cool plecs in my LFS - we're lucky to get gold nuggets, let alone anything like a zebra plec. it's in the quarantine tank at the moment by itself (and one baby guppy) then will be on to the 3 foot tank ...

mustard cactus pleco - any experience?
my LFS has what i believe to be pseudacanthicus sp 4 - mustard cactus pleco, as identified in this website. they have called it leopard pleco (as an leopard cactus pleco) but i don't think it's pseudacanthicus leopardus. just wondering if anyone has kept these fish. look cool.

could be an albino gibby
Actually, from that angle it looks very much like what i have - "albino plecostomus" is what the LFS called mine, and i found it on this website as an albino gibby (pterygoplichthis gibbiceps - hope the spelling is right). what size is it? does it have googly eyes, and is it quite skinny except for ...

I have one also. found that he hid the entire time in my smal quarantine tank, and as soon as i put him in the tank set up for him and couple gibbies, he came out of the decoration (had to just pick that up with him in it and put it in the tank coz he wouldn't come out ...

thanks for the reply. gibbies are a bit more active, looking a bit more relaxed as they settle. obviously they nocturnal, so that doesn't help. i find if i sit quietly by the tank they relax once they don't feel any more vibrations (wooden floors) and start to move around a little more. all the food ...

hi there,
have just set up a 40g tank as a starting tank for 2 gibbies, a gold nugget pleco (will later get 6 foot plus tank) and as gold nuggets like the temp warm, will go for 27-28 degrees celsius (80 - 82 degrees F). am wondering whether to eventually add my 2 bristlenoses and yellow black eyed ...
