Fishroom Plecos, Tanks, Equipment, Etc
I have several pleco groups, tanks, and other equipment. I'll do my best to list what I know of at the moment. I'll consider shipping dry goods and some of the smaller equipment. Everything else is for pickup in central NJ. Please message me with any questions. 40 breeder tank with AquaclearAC110 ...

Re: Genders of these L 204, 260
Thank you Eric. I suspected the same with the 204, now if I could just get them to "like" each other! The males' caudal peduncle odontodes are very obvious, so sexing them is easy. The large size of the third fish, without obvious odontodes, really says it's female. And as far as liking each other ...

Re: Genders of these L 204, 260
L204 - 2 males and one female. L260 - maybe 2 males (sides) and one female (middle). But I can't see the pectoral spines clearly to see if the males are showing odontode development. So I'm not certain in the L260s. Your images are not loading. @fishguy 1978, they are loading for me. Can you still ...

Genders of these L 204, 260
I'm just curious as to what you think the sexes may be for these 2 groups. The 204 are adults and wild caught. The 2 smaller ones are easily 4-1/2" and the larger 6". The smaller 2 definitely have odontodes on their back, so I'm assuming male. I don't see any on the larger one and the body shape ...

Funny you should ask today of all days - sometimes true for other genera too, as in my case over Saturday with Peckoltia lineola: (https://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=325579#p325579) Well let’s hope we both have better results going forward! Success! ... but not. First spawn of my P ...

The First Spawn
In the experiences of those here, do you find that the first spawn of any given species usually does not go well when you allow the parents to attempt to care for the eggs naturally? With the Hypans that have spawned for me, it seems to have been the case every time with the latest being my L-404 ...

Re: Creating ideal conditions for L260
Paranoia, mainly. I'm sure they're feeding at night, as the shrimp pellets I'm dropping at night are always gone, and my otos can't do that much damage to the courgettes I put in. It's easy at times to think something may be wrong, but don't let paranoia drive your decision making. They are ...

Re: Creating ideal conditions for L260
I'm curious as to what makes you think that you do not have enough dissolved O2? If it is because the plecos are shy, consider that generally speaking, Hypans will stay in their caves and hides more often than not during the day and feed at night.

I agree with the others, you should be fine. I keep my L129 group in parameters of 7.8pH, KH 4, GH 9 and TDS around 300 after off gassing. They spawn pretty regularly.

Re: TDS, RO/DI and question.
A TDS meter does read conductivity. It then applies a formula to that result and converts it into TDS. My continuous monitor offers me three choices, conductivity and then two TDS readings which use different conversion formulas. One drawback to the TDS setting I use is that it basically reads in ...

Re: TDS, RO/DI and question.
As far as I know, a TDS meater measures conductivity of the water, and organic matter - large molecules with little or no charge, do not contribute much to the conductivity. What I think happend was, you went from TDS 400 to 40 after the waterchange, but then stuff went dissolving again. I think ...

TDS, RO/DI and question.
I know the subject of TDS is well covered here, but I’m looking for a little more info. I’ll try to give as much info as possible. I have an RO/DI unit that I use with an inline meter for measuring source, RO, and DI levels. My source(well) water consistently reads 185-205 PPM. It’s pH is rock stead ...

Re: Moving Fry
To clarify, when I say I overfeed fry 3x per day, I mean specifically that I do this while the fry are in the fry basket. Food does not escape into the tank and things such as freeze-dried worms, shredded veggies and algae or earthworm flakes can easily be suctioned out. When fry are loose in the ...

Re: Moving Fry
This does not apply to situations where "bad" dads are the problem and are either eating or booting viable eggs. The ove pleco I have worked with that did this were my P. compta. My experience with Hypancistrus has been that the fry do best when they can be left in the breeder tank,I discovered ...

Re: Moving Fry
Congrats on another spawn. My Hypancistrus debilittera have spawned before and I released the young into the tank at about 1/2" SL safely. That said, I've let L201 fry loose with parents at only a week or two old. They were tiny, barely having finished their yolk and starting to feed on regular ...

Moving Fry
Last week, I pulled a batch of L-129 eggs from a cave and hatched them artificially because the male has not done well with a few spawns previously and I didn't want to lose this one. Now that they have just about lost their egg sacs, I want to move them into a breeder box in the same tank. In the ...

Re: Opinions on this condition
A further update and things have gone well. I had treated several more times with Proform C with no more losses and it looks like any spots that were on the Heterodon are all gone. They've taken up spots in caves and under the driftwood, so I consider that a good sign that they are settling in. I ...

Re: Feeding Repashy
The best food for conditioning many fish, including Hypancistrus, is live. For some of us this is not going to happen. I am in that camp. I must agree that Repashy is an excellent food for conditioning fish for spawning. It is a toss up in my mind as to which is the next best choice after live ...

Re: Feeding Repashy
I only feed my fish Repashy. So that means every day, although I do have one day a week in which I don't feed. Repashy is an excellent food source to feed on a daily basis. You can switch between different formulas if you want to make it more interesting for yourself. Repashy contains high quality ...

Re: Feeding Repashy
No, I did not feed it for most of the summer time. I don't want them to get too fat. It's best to give them some time with lots of veggies and less protein based foods. I think you can use most Pleco foods from the big suppliers for this period. Just don't feed too much to your adults. Youngsters ...

Re: Feeding Repashy
Well at least I feed it for 2-3 days untill it is gone. Depends on my mood whether I am up to make it every third day all over, again. So they get some breaks in between. I feed it mostly when I want them to spawn, or rather when I expect them to spawn again soon. Like now, when winter and rainy ...

Re: Feeding Repashy
I take an old big tea cup with hot water and boil it in the microwave. Then add the powder and stir well using a spoon. Once hardened, I will feed it using a spoon to make portions of what I assume would be appropriate for the tank. One tea cup usually is enough for two or sometimes three days ...
