Anyone been stung by a venomous catfish?
Hi, I'm thinking of getting a "salmon catfish" from my LFS (I live in Australia). I believe these are neoarius species eg., berneyi. Doing some research on them, it appears their dorsal spin is venomous and inflicts "excruciatingly painful wounds". Apparently the best analgesia is hot water. I've ...

Re: What beautiful plecos grow to a foot or so?
Hi, yes thanks for your concern. I have planned and set up the tank with the messiness of oscars and plecos in mind (I plan to only have 1 of each with a few smaller cichlids). It's a 6x2x2 180G with dual Unimax 700s for biological (with combined 16L of seachem matrix), dual AC 110s (with sponges ...

What beautiful plecos grow to a foot or so?
Hi all, I am looking for a pleco for my oscar/SA cichlid tank that is big enough to be on the food radar and can take care of itself. This means 1 foot long or so. Apart from the common/sailfin variety, what are some nice looking plecos that fit the bill and aren't super rare? I know all the most ...

Re: Featherfin squeaker catfish (syno eupterus) has ich??
Just an update. Unfortunately my featherfin developed true Ich a few days after these photos. http://i.imgur.com/SV4OJdkl.jpg The reason I knew was because my severum starting getting it, then I caught the featherfin and noticed it too. I took the featherfin out, put him in a makeshift quarantine ...

Re: Featherfin squeaker catfish (syno eupterus) has ich??
If it's not disease, there's nothing to treat. Birger is very knowledgeable and he's saying these are likely to be natural features of the fish, rather than ich. Fantastic. I'll just keep a close eye on him then. He's the only fish I ever had with tiny white spots all over like this and I got ...

Re: Featherfin squeaker catfish (syno eupterus) has ich??
Thanks for all the opinions. The spots do look like the one in the picture, although TBH when I first saw the picture it looked like ich! Confusing. Sooooo..... do I treat for ich or not? My concern is that I know salt is bad for catfish. I don't want to use meds as they can wipe out my biological ...

Featherfin squeaker catfish (syno eupterus) has ich??
Hi, I'm from Australia. I just bought this guy a couple days ago from my LFS. He seemed fine in their tank, and was the dominant featherfin, bullying the others. The tank seemed pretty clean and the LFS is the best one in town, with a good reputation for fish welfare. http://i.imgur.com/7ho4nWhh.jpg ...
