Re: Corydoras diphyes spawning video
Cool video! I have my camera handy so I can try to get a video if any of my cories actually start spawning. I've seen my C. aeneus and C. sterbai go through the motions numerous times lately, but no eggs yet. My C. pygmaeus have been acting frisky too, but can't tell if they're going through the ...

Re: Anyone been stung by a venomous catfish?
Pseudomonas , possibly. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is nasty, acts just like you described and is common in water, damp soil, and perpetually damp/wet areas in buildings. It was actually what I was thinking about in my original post when referencing chronic health issues. This one can cause infection in ...

Re: Anyone been stung by a venomous catfish?
...Now I know it is impossible to keep fishes without having your hand in the water every now and then, but we could try and do it as little as posssible. I got tanks I don't enter with my hands for months Pond gloves are a wonderful tool. Although I doubt they'd stop a big catfish spine! Can't ...

Re: Anyone been stung by a venomous catfish?
Thanks, Eric. Interesting thread, especially the part about it possibly being more prevalent in certain locales. At that time I'd been keeping fish for 31 years and had never dreamed I'd ever get it, though I'd read and heard about it, and had seen pics. More than a bit of the "it can't happen to me ...

Re: Anyone been stung by a venomous catfish?
I’ve been stung by cories several times over the years, which hurt for a bit and then itched for a couple days like a mosquito bite. Stung by a Pimelodus pictus once, which was a little worse. For the most part, I suspect most species that hobbyists have access to won’t be too much of a threat unl ...

Re: Noturus flavus Size
Ahhhh, sorry Bekateen. Didn't mean to sound like I was stirring up trouble, not my intent. Just found the preconceptions interesting. @Birger, I've seen pictures from some caught in Montana on a fishing website that I estimated were pushing the 12" standard length as well, but really caught my eye ...

Re: Noturus flavus Size
True, but if you take 2" give or take off the TL for the caudal the SL is still 8". My real pioint was that after 25 years knowing that it's classified as a game fish, it's still hard for me to think of a madtom in that way, kind of like you were saying a madtom that gets a foot long surprised you ...

Re: Noturus flavus Size
It's actually a game fish in Wyoming. State record on hook and line is 10" and 0.35 lbs. I wanted to collect some back for a tank in my college days, long, long ago, but the permits for collecting and keeping game fish were just too much of a hassle to make it worth it.

Noturus flavus Size
The size for Noturus flavus in the Cat-eLog is a bit smaller than actual potential growth. I looked the species up out of curiousity, since it's one of the few catfish native to Wyoming. The size for it is listed as 5.1". This species can potentially reach 12" (300 mm) in the wild, and 8" (200mm ...

LOL. I looked at your picture, so I know ya aren't the former, unless you're a hairy little guy with a hormone disorder severely in need of a shave. I live out by Archer overpass. I'm always looking for someone local to talk fish with. I'm actually looking at starting an aquarium club in Cheyenne if ...

Howdy
Howdy, Been keeping fish for 30+ years. Mainly a Rift Valley cichlid kinda guy, currently breeding over 20 species in my fish room now and have bred nearly a hundred RV cichlid species over the years, with 40 of my tanks devoted to cichlids from Lakes Victoria, Tanganyika and Malawi. Always liked ...
