Thank you for replying.
Here is another picture.
I'm still thinking s. nigrita. You can see that second headcap right in front of the dorsal fin in this picture and it has the white tip on the dorsal fin.

Can anyone help id this syno species? Trying to help a friend. The fish is approx. 8" long. Picture is not great, but fish doesn't come out much. Fish was purchased in the UK, as an adult, so juvie pattern is unknown. He was thinking s. ocellifer, but I think the adipose fin is too short. I was ...

Chaetostoma aff. Milesi?
Could I get a positive ID please? Bought 3 of these as "rubber lip" plecos. I had them in 3 separate tanks, but decided to move them all into one. They seem very territorially aggressive towards one another, which according to the Cat-eLog is to be expected. Lot's of bumping, body slamming and ...

Re: Should hybrid or bred forms of Plecos be given l-numbers
Hope I am not interrupting, but how common are pleco hybrids? Which genus can be crossed and is there any reliable information on the web? For example, someone on another site was saying that a sailfin could cross with a bristlenose. Is this possible or likely? There was a poster that appeared to ...

Which Synodontis?
ID is for a friend, so these are the best pics I have. LFS told him the fish would not grow more than 4". I believe it is a juvenile eupterus though. Any thoughts?

Re: Which one of these is not an Oto?..
Yep, would say both otos, not sure the species. Coloration can vary and also change if the fish is stressed. In my experience, they tend to be delicate and can sometimes have problems acclimating.

Looks the same to me. Thanks.
This was probably a really easy ID, but when you're told one thing by the seller, it's hard to get that idea out of your head.

I was thinking maybe a bristle nose too.
The fish is about 2.5" and came from a large chain store.

Pleco ID for a friend
Hi all,
I would appreciate some help with 100% ID on this pleco. It belongs to a friend, so these are the best pictures I have.
It was labeled a "Rubberlip", not sure if that is correct though.
Thanks!

Re: Breeding Synodontis Nigriventris
Yes! I have a female! :d Do they appear of breeding size and age then? One I have had for 3 years, 2 for about 2.5 years and the last little guy was purchased within the last year. I really have not found much information on lifespan or maturation time. Thank you so much for your help, Birger, and ...

Re: Breeding Synodontis Nigriventris
Individual #1 is about 2 3/4". It also had a visible papillae.
#3 is very small, not quite 2". It doesn't have any visible papillae, but is probably a juvenile yet?
Individual #4, same size as #1. This one I am not so sure about gender.

Re: Breeding Synodontis Nigriventris
I never even noticed that on the picture. I wish it would have talked about it in the description.
So the papillae is only visible on males? Is it always visible?
The largest fish is 3" in length. Here is a side view. I can clearly see the papillae. He is individual #2, from previous post.

Yep, I meant male and female, ideally showing some interest in one another(??) I don't know, they are very different from anything else I have bred.
Thanks for the input, Birger. Going to give it a try.

Re: Breeding Synodontis Nigriventris
I haven't had any more success and the one egg I found, did fungus over. Does anyone think it would be beneficial to isolate a spawning pair in a separate aquarium? Assuming I am able to identify a spawning pair. My fear is that they would be uncomfortable in a new aquarium and it would set back any ...

Re: Breeding Synodontis Nigriventris
I read that from a (clearly) not reliable source on the web and wrongly incorporated it into my plans. http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/catfish1/p/upsidedowncat.htm I think the egg is already getting a bit of fuzz. If I am lucky enough to get more, will probably put them in a bucket with some air ...

Re: Breeding Synodontis Nigriventris
Thank you for the reply Birger. Hmmm. Is it the parent pair that eat the eggs or the other cats? If I could determine a spawning pair, I would remove the extras. The few articles I have read suggest the parents attend to the eggs and fry so I wonder if the conditions are off in any way, do the ...
