I agree with Silurus about feeding clarias every other day.
They are greedy and can store food in their stomach without actually consuming it.
They`ll eat almost anything.. more or less a dustbin with fins. You can usually tell how much they`ve eaten by the bloated stomachs.

I guess price will also depend on how big the fish is.

I`m looking for a big female clarias but all i`ve managed to find locally is 1.5" long tiddlers at £4.50 each and a 12" male at £60, which i think is a tad overpriced and the wrong gender :D

I don`t think the aggressive label is deserved unless you`re a small fish :D
Sounds like you may have some luck with breeding if you have a pair.

I should have bought more than one at the beginning, but unfortunately i didn`t, so now i`ll have to find a female thats too big for him to eat ...

Yet another Clarias fanatic here.
I`ve found they have a massive personality, more like a dog than a fish :)
Mine is about 13" and gets along fine with his 10" common pleco tank buddy.
Fast growing, very agile fish and likes to rearrange the tank on a daily basis.
Takes food from the hand ...
