Hi,

the newest DATZ (German aquaristik magazine) says, that it was a misstake that L173 could be the same species as L46.

Juvenile L173 look very similar to L46, but they get taller as L46 and the colour gets darker.

The newest official picture of L173 is this one:

Hi,

i would also say L333, but with a pic showing the side view of this pleco it would be easier to say it 100%.

Hi,

with such a pic it isn't possible to say which species of Hypancistrus your pleco is.

Make a pic with the pleco in the water showing the body shape ... and we will se.

I can strongly recommend these caves!

Hi,

i don't think taht this pleco is a sp."belo Monte". It seems like a very nice pattern L333 with a good colouration.

Hi,

it is sure a Hypancistrus sp. "Belo Monte".

Some times ago the "Belo Monte" was called L287. This wasn't correct IMO.

The "belo Monte" gets his own L-Number in the next time.

Hi,

IMO the colour of the eyes say nothing about the species. I have seen several examples of plaecos from the same species with different coloured eyes.

Hi Yann,

you won't believe it it but this is the pleco you can see on the left side in my picture.

I bought this pleco from Jens Gottwald, owner of "Aquatarium" who cought this pleco together with Ingo Seidel in the Summer of 2004 during an expidition.

Hi,

i think those plecos, and the plecos from pandadosmares, are Hypancistrus sp. "Belo Monte".

It makes no sense to give them any L-Number, because this species is very varbiable. Nice plecos of this species looks like the L236 or L250 from DATZ, and not so nice ones looks like an L174,L287 or ...

Hi,

i would like to say omething about th location of L287:

Some moths ago i bought 3 L287. Ingo Seidl gave them this Number. These fish were cought in the Rio Xingu. The dealer had about 30 fish of this species and every fish was differently patterned.

Heres a bad picture of one of these guys ...
