Re: Ancistrus sp. Albino X Albino Equals what?
I have about 6 browns and 14+ albino from my recent breeding of like ABN w/red eyes. So I guess it's not impossible.

Re: I have Albino Bristlenose eggs - now what?
I had another breeding shortly after my last transmission. I moved the whole cave with Dad again into the small tank. A few eggs were left behind (less than 12?) so I put those in the fry box with one of the filters circulating into it. I only got 2-3 viable fry from that, which I moved to the other ...

Re: I have Albino Bristlenose eggs - now what?
I successfully salvaged three fry from the latest breeding. They are alone with snails and nematodes in a small tank for now. Dad has been moved back home. Moving the whole cave worked, but I didn't get the Mollie who was being medicated (antifungal) in time to save all of them. I was about an hour ...

Re: I have Albino Bristlenose eggs - now what?
So you say they should be expected to stay in the cave? I haven't seen that. Just eggs, then no eggs. This time I did not see a single fry, though unfortunately we were gone for 2 days.

Re: I have Albino Bristlenose eggs - now what?
Too late. Any advice for next time would be appreciated. Setting up a breeding tank is not an option, but I would prefer to not just be farm - raising catfish food next time.

The type I have offers no active flow. It has the floating bottom with small holes. Is that a concern?

I have Albino Bristlenose eggs - now what?
20150213_191948.jpg I have two males and two female adults in my 75gal tank with many other catfish and 1 small African cichlid (bruscheri?) at the moment. I have some small community fish that shouldn't be a problem. I had seen one or two babies one morning after not knowing to expect them, and ...

Re: Trouble feeding Otos - algae in tank running out!
Some updates on this.... Green Spot Algae - I had some common plant snails arrive on a plant or two I got from the LFS. I had to move my anubias to the tank that had them, and they ate the GSA in a day. They are great cleaners, but do damage if left unchecked, so I am investigating a remedy there ...

Re: Feeding rubber lip pleco?
So the rubbernose is still alive, though went a matter of weeks without being seen at all until I moved some things around in the tank a second time. I have arranged some things in a more "pleco friendly" manner, meaning it may be a few more weeks now. He came out a bit when I added a pair of very ...

Flickr images not working with [img] tag
When I try to use the img tag with a Flickr link I get an error that reads something to the effect of "Could not retrieve image size..." I have messed around with the syntax, and can't get any closer than this. I have tried using the link that points to the smallest of the "All sizes" option on ...

Re: Farlowella I.D. (x2)
A camera-phone shot of the belly: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kozadinos/5738066856/in/photostream/ ...I was curious if this somewhat asymmetric pattern is typical or not. I hope this fish's health is in order. I was somewhat shocked how docile it is, but the LFS said this was typical. I was able to ...

Re: Feeding rubber lip pleco?
Since it has been about a month since I lost the last one, I am trying again. I got another, similar sized chaetostoma malesi in the 29gal. I can't be certain, but I think this one is a male this time. I am trying the dried egg & algae spackle on a piece of vertical slate in the back of the tank. No ...

Re: Trouble feeding Otos - algae in tank running out!
If you want to add another item, or the clip becomes a problem or something, loop a rubber band around a piece of smallish slate and tuck the food under the band. Make it a light-weight, not-too-snug one, just in case.

Re: Trouble feeding Otos - algae in tank running out!
I forgot to add - twice now, I haven't had to get the zucchini slice out of the tank, because it was consumed in its entirety. Otherwise, out it comes if it gets fuzzy. A few have mentioned a trick involving egg whites plus ground up algae wafers "painted" onto slate or stones, which are dried and ...

Re: Trouble feeding Otos - algae in tank running out!
I, too, am new to the species. I got a half-dozen initially, for my small tank, which had a bit of algae on the walls and on an anubias plant. They had the tank spotless in one night. Two of the group were lost within two days, but I am certain they were not healthy at the time of purchase. I have ...

Re: Hairy/fuzzy "Algae?"
After no activity since the small water change on Saturday, I see a remarkable improvement. There is still some slime where I couldn't get it vac'd and I expect a bit of it to stick around, but the water is nearly transparent now, where I couldn't see more than two inches deep least week. The small ...

Re: Oto IDs please?
Looking again, I think the smallest of the group is, in fact, another o. vestitus, making it two of them and three of the o. huaorani. Holy cow, are they ever the cleanup crew! The almost fuzzy anubias leaves are now sparkling clean, and the glass is immaculate. On Monday we'll start the zucchini ...

Re: Hairy/fuzzy "Algae?"
Added some Java Moss, vallisneria, and bacopa today. That should starve the bacteria well enough. I also saw some really nice adult harlequin rasboras that would be nice to add to the small group of three in there. Let's hope I get this over with before they are gone.

Can someone confirm Oto. Huaorani/Vestitus IDs please?
I got four of these guys plus one of another species, it would seem. That one seems to me most similar to O. Vestitus, but these look like O. Huaorani to me: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kozadinos/5644115667/in/photostream These are the only fish in the 5.5 gal, and already scrubbing away. I fear ...

Today I sucked out 5 gal, taking as much as bad stuff with me as possible, then added 5 gal slightly cooler tap water, then sucked out another 2.5 gal and as much floating debris as I could, then added that much back again. Treated with conditioner and bio supplement (both Stress-Coat brand) and ...

Re: Hairy/fuzzy "Algae?"
Sounds right-on. "Rock snot" sounds very appropriate, as the rocks I was pulling out yesterday to clean off were like handling smooth ice cubes. I vac'd the gravel, cleaned off the larger stones with water, and changed out 10 gal of water, which works out to more than 50% with all the stones and ...
