Re: Frozen vegetables for clown plecos?
I saw mine eat slices of cucumber last year. Took them a couple of days to totally devour it (big slice, little fish), but it was gone. Trying with a zucchini this year, because they appear to have an appetite for green vegetables. And I can freeze the remaining parts which I could not do with the ...

Re: Assassination snails
Well, this topic is like 1,5 years old by now. I ended up buying some anatome helena. They are breeding fine, snails are almost gone. Gone to a more usefull level anyway. So no more hundreds of them on the tank windows.

Update: after a sale to a local fish store (only once, because the store changed owners) in the area I still have some 25 younglings left. If anyone in the Netherlands wants them, or can point me to an adress who'll buy them from me I'd really appreciate it. I don't like Marktplaats, because I don't ...

I agree Some Peckoltia. Nice male fish by the way. Why not try to breed them if the other is hopefully a female? By the way: I get an error message when searching in the cat-elog under family: Loricariidae and genus: Peckoltia. Fatal error: Call to undefined function display_genus_thumbnails() in ...

At some point he'll get it the tank is a lot bigger than it used to be. Noticed the same behaviour with my 15 cm Ancistrus Cirrhosus when she got transferred from a 60 cm to a 125 cm tank. The critter thought she was in the corner already but she was only halfway.

No idea. I don't have video images of what I'm about to describe. But when I was in Bangkok a couple of years ago we went on a boat trip on the river. At some point near a temple we were given whole 1 kilo breads to feed the fish. Only answer I got when asked about the species was "catfish ...

My first spawn in the redecorated tank of last year November is big enough to let go to new keepers. Anybody interested in buying some juveniles from me? I live in the Netherlands, near the Hague.

If you build your own cover I recommend that you paint the interior white to get more out of your lighting. Also use a cover glass to proctect the electrical components from condensation. Not only the electrical parts, also the wood! Or else it starts to soak up the water. One problem, and the only ...

That w2as a possibility if I had more time. My problem was the 2 adult Ancistrus in the buckets. They could in my opinion not survive a day without heating and fresh water. So that was a corner I had to cut. Both adults had to be back in the big tank with at least some sort of filtration in the ...

A lot of the substrate, especially from the middle to the left, is keeping the cork plate down. That think floats like styrofoam if you don't keep it weighed down. The rightside hasn't got the cork plate part as much as the left side. I used left over substrate to level it out with the left part to ...

I was surprised by a litter of baby Ancistrus Cirrhosus today! I knew the male was in a cave, I could see in the darkness he was fanning, but never saw the eggs! The male uses his fins for the fanning movement even when he doesn't have any eggs. So the tank redeco is a big success, if I have a ...

I moved my first "litter" yesterday. They are 6-8 weeks old at the moment. No fatalities as of yet, all are swimming and eating as if nothing happened.
Took me 2 hours to catch all the little ones, so be warned!

Well, here we go. A new day. Yesterday evening, because of the Ancistrus adults, I got going with placing the rocks in my tank. As already told, they couldn't stay in the buckets for the night. I use a normal T8 Philips TL lamp 120 cm long Colorcode 840 cool white. And 2 halogen bathroom build in spots. Changed the lamps inside to LED ones. Not as much light, but a lot better! The L-104 are pretty docile creatures. Although I did see them head butting over a piece of zucchini last evening. Maybe check out the cat-elog entry for both fish? It'll also tell you the desired water temperature and more info for both species. Pretty handy when working out if and when to add a ...

Thanks for the replies. I've bought me a new aquariumpump. An Eheim 2226 to be exact. It's a pre owned one, it's leaking at the moment. Gasket is leaking like a sieve. I'm considering a total tank redecoration for all my plecos. I want to change the almost empty setup with some waterpest plants to a roughly half rocks (a type we can buy here called "breuksteen". It's quarried in Belgium in the Ardennes and inert), half wood tank. The wood for my expanding (in ...

I seem to have a little snail problem in my tank. They're breeding faster than my Guppies. (Snail bomb? I've got a couple of hundred specimens righty now, and I still find dozens of eggs on my plants). I want to get them under control by introducing a natural predator. If anyone on the forums from ...
