ID help H.Furnculus or P.vittata

Post by Andypex »

Hey guys

Some of you may remember i bought a group of 134 and posed here for some help sexing them... heres the thread
http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... =5&t=33395

During that thread it was figured out that "Fish 2" was quite obviously not an L134....

It was suggested by various members it was either

or a pekoltia Vittata group fish, maybe , or ???

I want to sell this fish eventually but want to correctly ID it before i do. I have added the original pictures of when i got him, and then i have tried to take a few more this week since he's had a bit of time to get in good condition.

so ....... whats everyone's thoughts??
I think it looks like its defo a Vittata group because of the depth of body and general shape possibly L140 but id like the experts opinion ^:)^

It doesn't quite look like H. furunculus to me, I'd be more apt to think it's a P. vittata type fish.

I agree Some Peckoltia. Nice male fish by the way. Why not try to breed them if the other is hopefully a female?

By the way: I get an error message when searching in the cat-elog under family: Loricariidae and genus: Peckoltia.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function display_genus_thumbnails() in /home/webcat/planetcatfish.com/catelog/index.php on line 74

I received a half box of these on my Brazilian order 10 days ago. They were listed as Psuedo imperial tigers on the stock list. The shipping documents had them listed as Peckoltia sp. I will post some pics tonite if I have time.

Here is a photo of some Peckoltia vittata I used to have. I think your fish is a Peckoltia but I am not 100% certain it is a P. vittata.
I am fairly sure it is P. vittata.

Thanks for the error report [it would have been better to have in the "Bugs and Suggestions" section...], I will have a look at fixing...

I don't have a female, i got him in a group of L134 leopard frogs that i bought. so he's a lone male.
I want to correctly ID him and then hopefully sell him to a breeder or to join a group. He's obviously very mature so should hopefully make a good breeder for someone.

So..... thoughts at the moment are definitely towards P.Vittata which would mean L015??
What are peoples thoughts on it being L140??
Picture 5 on the L140 factsheet..... i cant help thinking is a dead ringer for my fish??

Thanks

When I say P. vittata type fish, I meant it could have been any of those. I'm not so good at ID'ing Peckoltia to pin a P. vittata type fish down to a specific L-number.

Here is the pics of the fish that came in as Pseudo imperial tigers. The exportor also sells L-015's and L-134's but these were much cheaper.

I think that is a case of "creative marketing" by the exporters... Make it sound like a new thing, and people will buy it to see what it is...
