It all started for me when I was 30. My 3 year old son won a goldfish at a local field days. My wife and I bought a five gallon tank to put it in, and it lived for about 2 months. Left with an empty tank, we decided to buy a common pl*co, and an irridescent shark on the advice of a large chain pet ...

He is about 3 inches long at the moment. Also, he is not injured, this is his natural coloration when he gets really exited all the stripes go bright white just like the areas on his tail. This is why I suggested that he might be a hybrid?

Thanks

L260 or L066?

This was sold as a Queen Arabesque but doesn't seem to match the color scheme. He was a little stressed in the pic from turning on the lights.

Cherry is a hardwood, You might have good results and less "drying time" by boiling the wood for several hours, and make sure you don't use too much of the bark if you are worried about parasites. This wood will change the hue of your water slightly.

I'm no expert, but the pl*co in front of all the others eating in the second pic looks almost identical when you blow up the photo. My pic wasn't very good, but yours was and since I can see mine in real life I can say they LOOK like siblings.

Yeah, I realized after making the post how illogical that would be, I thought I might be able to limit the flow to the smaller tank, but I would NOT want to ruin the expensive 2217 by doing this, I suppose if the tanks were closer in size it would have been feasible. Thank you Barbie for the reply ...

Using an Eheim 2217 for two tanks at once?

This may seem a little ridiculous, but I was wondering if it was possible to use an Eheim 2217 to filter both a 55 gallon AND a 10 gallon tank by splitting the intake and return hoses and using two spray bars/intake tubes. the secondary hoses to the ten gallon would have to be about 10 feet long ...

He is just under 2 inches and was unusually comfortable, as I actually got the chance to take the photo. He is usually laying low in a driftwood cave, but he comes out to eat. I think he had too much sweet potato because he didn't move when I approached the tank, so I seized the opportunity. When he ...

Thank you for the replies, the fish was $8.99 american and the owner of the LFS stated that they were tank bred.(a group of 10 of them)I was mainly wondering if it was a hybrid simply because of this. Plus he (I'm assuming it's a "he" because of the tentacles - still very young) doesn't exactly ...

Just wondering if anyone has an idea of what species Ancistrus this is, or if it's a hybrid?

How long should I quarantine?

I was just wondering how long I should quarantine a Panaque Maccus to be sure he doesn't transfer disease to any other catfish? He has been in quarantine for about a week and seems healthy, no spots or rot, and is eating enthusiastically. Should I wait another couple of weeks or transfer him to the ...

Thanks Mats, I think I will just leave the temp up and do the larger water changes/vaccuums. I really didn't want to use the formalin anyway. Chemicals, IMO, aren't healthy for any organism.

Thanks for the reply. I have been keeping the temp at around 88F for 24 hours, and then back down to about 72F for 48 hours in a cycle for about a week, put a blanket around the tank to keep light out, and put in an extra tablepoon of aquarium salt with the last water change yesterday. I have been ...

Formalin and Panaque

I was just wondering if anyone knew if Panaque Maccus is overly sensitive to formalin as a treatment for ICH.

Thanks

As long as I'm asking, I might as well ask the same about Ancistrus sp. (possibly ranunculus?)

You can make the grape wood sink easier by boiling it for 1 hour. My grape vine sank after about an hour of floating it in the tank after boiling it. You may have to keep adding water to the pot you use to boil it if you don't have a large pot as this wood absorbs a lot of water.

What kind of pl*co is this?

Had this pl*co for about 6 months, got him from an LFS with a reputation for having excellent fish. I was just wondering if this is a Common pl*co?
