Re: Sexing Callichthys?
LOL, that's right - he's as red as a tomato. I'm beginning to get the feeling that occasions of Callichthydae breedings are a sort of sesquipedalian relation of buses - you wait for one and not two, but three (might) happen. I think the male is a bit aggressive - my female initially had a torn ...

Re: Notes on Spawning of Corydoras Kanei (LIVE ACTION)
Well, a lot of eggs have gone missing. But there's more to it than that. On the tank floor, I noticed trios of eggs here and there when previously there were quartets or quintets. All of them were fertile. The only possible conclusion - the parents had eaten all the infertile eggs, leaving the ...

Re: Notes on Spawning of Corydoras Kanei (LIVE ACTION)
LOL, I woke up this morning to find them still at it! There are probably 70-80 eggs. Last time I made the mistake of taking them out prematurely - lesson learned! I probably won't take them out at all. Methylene blue added. Edit: Quarter to 9, they're still at it - no eggs have been eaten yet. Some ...

Re: Notes on Spawning of Corydoras Kanei (LIVE ACTION)
Thanks for your words.
Now, we're up to 20+ eggs.
Edit: DAMN, C091?? They sell for 18 quid each at Wildwoods, how much did you get yours for?
Edit at half past 7 o' clock - about 40 eggs.

Notes on Spawning of Corydoras Kanei (LIVE ACTION)
My pair is spawning as I type; so far I've seen 17 eggs and my female is still quite fat; there should be plenty more. Last time they spawned (this is their second with me) they laid about 60 eggs. 4 eggs were laid on the wall, 9 were laid on the tank floor (surrounded with a few pebbles) and 4 in ...

Of course - I in a silly way didn't really think about the dietary considerations at the time. It's just that words such as 'detestable' were used, so I didn't really think about that.

Jews and Catfish
I was reading the book of Leviticus and got to chapter 11; 9 " 'Of all the creatures living in the water of the seas and the streams, you may eat any that have fins and scales. 10 But all creatures in the seas or streams that do not have fins and scales—whether among all the swarming things or among ...

Visiting Manchester
Hi,
Enfield (where Wildwoods is) is a minicity of fishstores and reptile stores...I just went there for Wildwoods, but there were so many others besides.
Just wondering - where is worth visiting in Manchester?
Thanks!

Re: visiting London
Very interesting...I was also wanting to do a one-day London fish store romp, in late June. I've already been to Wholesale tropicals and my they were impressive (Corydoras Pulcher, Meronodontus Tigirnus (I think) and - this is a first - live Tubifex worms.) Apart from Wildwoods and Pier Aquatics ...

Re: Sturisoma nigrirostrum
Yep, that's the one. I haven't been there in ages though. The Sturisoma were massive though - well-built and just huge; at least 6 inches. I couldn't tell whether it was a male-female pair (assuming they're still there). But the first time I went there I was like - wow.

Re: The Corydoras on the front of South American Catfishes,
Unfortunately I have no idea; I assume it must have been Sands himself. He did ID some other fish in pictures he had in the book, but for some reason didn't ID those Corys. A shame, cause they're quite remarkable.

Re: Sturisoma nigrirostrum
Whoops, I was being a bit vague. By LFS I meant the one near where I live (Oxford) at the moment. It's Maidenhead Aquatics in Oxford, I'm actually not sure they still have them, but they might. But I'm not sure you'd be willing to travel that far....but they have absolutely loads of plecos. But West ...

The Corydoras on the front of South American Catfishes, An I
Hi, I read this book but wondered what those Cories were? Anyone can help me? Sands didn't ID them.

Re: Sturisoma nigrirostrum
I'd love to have them, but they're quite expensive here (50 quid a pair) and even though my LFS has exactly the pair, I'm not allowed to keep fish where I am right now. My home is Yorkshire but I have yet to see them there...

I'm not going to spoil it for you. The goldfish bowl is OK and has more than just bread and butter fish. But if it's catfish you're after, Maidenhead Wheatley is fantastic and likely the best I've ever been to. The Goldfish Bowl also sells Spirulina flakes - the first I've ever seen. Naturally, I ...

These fish are super sensitive to water conditions. They seem to like planted tanks: I actually could see 2 during the day time after having put 3 in. They will take Hikari sinking pellets, taking chunks out of the thing. Sorry for stating the obvious, if that's how it appears. They do have a really ...
