Re: Investigate the originale of my syno
Your fish is definitely a hybrid, not an ocellifer, I do not go into guessing what is involved for the parent species because that is what it is, a guess. It is part eupterus though.

Re: Tank biotope congo for Synodontis nigriventris
They do like to have caves with overhangs to hang out under. The females will claim a overhang.
I would if I was to do this again set up one tank for just a single pair.
As well as a group situation.

You have to get in contact with a Tanganyikan importer and talk to them, they are hard for importers to unload.

Re: Synodontis granulosus: tank information
Keep in mind Granulosus are a very different fish then a Nigriventris, they will not play nicely and your size of tank will be a minimum. these fish are an open and deep water fish in the lake and like to roam in the open, they also are very rough with each other with the larger females tending to ...

The nigriventris will not be large enough for this task, you would need a Synodontis maybe 25 0r 30 cm. long to be sure.

Re: What size fish will Syno Multi eat?
I used to let mother cichlids drop fry into my tank with lucipinnis without them getting eaten.
As Far as grandiops/multipunctatus I would be a little more sceptical to do that. One inch fry should be okay though, the catfish are not totally predatory...they would be more opportunistic.

It is definitely a Synodontis nigriventris, the white spots on it are sensory pores I am pretty sure.

Is that a photo of the dorsal or a pectoral fin? Looks like it is the dorsal.
There should be some soft rays behind the hard ray of both the dorsal and pectoral fins.

Re: Short, efficient (deflective) answer to the same old question
What I dont like about the big fish syndrome....I was at Ohio Fish Rescue awhile ago when a young man brought in a fish that was too big for his current aquarium, the thing is he was excited to get rid of that fish because he fully intended to go out and get another of the same to raise up. He and ...

Re: The Role of Sand in a Pleco Tank
I know from the past, and a search in the forum here should bring something up, when a layer of sand is left in with fry of many species, there is less chance of losing those fry to bacteria. Glass bottoms seem to get a film of bacteria on them that can be harmful to fry. I always kept about 1 to 2 ...

Re: Attempting Cats again.
I had a trio of Pimelodus pictus at one time and they would nicely cruise the tank all together, a group of five would be interesting, also add a schoal of medium size tetras and it could look nice and be an active tank.
It seems to me the Synodontis are not really what you are looking for.

I would be careful calling this a review especially to the general public.
I doubt you have specimens available of each "species" to study.
just my opinion.

The main question I would have (not necessarily the only one) is where would you put A. senegali, they have been available, and are definitely out there. You do cover basic species but there are still many more.

I see it is now considered a synonym of biscutatus in COF.

I agree, let them grow some first.
They are probably a hybrid and certainly not a Mustache Catfish or .
In your profile you say you like dwarf Synodontis...well this would be no dwarf if it would be a real membranaceous.

I woud go with it being a member of the rebeli/obesus sort of complex.
Very hard to distinguish and I would not be surprised to hear there are more species.
