According to this thread there's something I missed somehow regarding lignin eating fungi in gut of wood eating loricariids. Can anyone elaborate on this?

odontodes - why?

We know that a lot of Loricariidaes have odontodes on different places on the body - some more than others. And we know that males develops more odontodal growth than females.
And we know they are "calcified conical structures, which strongly resemble comb-like teeth" (from The Ancistrinae Internet ...

i bought him under the non-existent L262 number.
I do not understand this statement.
L262 is indeed an existent number. And I believe your fish is a L262 - it sure looks like it.

Do you (or your LFS) know where is caught?

Hi Chris,

I think that Pic. #3 & 4 is a juvenile Ancistrus punctatus (Aqualog says that A. punctatus is L182).

The snout seems elongate
You're right - the snout looks like it's elongated - but I don't think it's a Leporacanthicus.
My guess is L201 - and remember it's just a guess - we need more pictures to be certain. I have seen some L201 with this "feature ...

I'm not sure what causes this...
But it also happens in nature - There's a picture of a wild-caught fish with this "feature" in the new-L-numbers.
I think it's something to do with the water-quality - but I'm not convinced that nitrate is the culprint.

Like HH/Silurus and Janne, I too think it's a Leporacanthicus of some kind because of the head shape.
If you want to be sure take a picture of the fish's mouth showing the teeths (from below).
Another way, but not the preferred way, is to take a picture of the fish's back from above ...
