A few were collected recently (pic from collector) at this size and available for sale. This is among the largest R.rita I have seen.

Re: Questions about Rita sp.
As Balaji, I've never seen one in captivity break a foot but then they are very, very exceedingly seldom kept and moreover almost never kept long term. Hey Viktor, these were actually freshly collected and offered for sale, not aquarium specimens. I am not sure where they ended up, though. I don't ...

Re: Questions about Rita sp.
Absolutely true HH, I had a rather unpleasant experience carrying the first R.gogra I kept. I was on a train on the way back from a trip with a large sized, triple bagged R.gogra that proceeded to go through all three bags and practically flood my train compartment. That one experience dealing with ...

Re: Questions about Rita sp.
These are currently exported out of the state of West Bengal in India. I think demand plays a key role in the collection of larger specimens in addition to difficulties in maintaining these fish at the collector's/trader's end until they are shipped. A collector I spoke to was hesitant to collect ...

Re: Questions about Rita sp.
This is Rita rita , I got a few at this size (2 - 2.5 inches) last year to try and grow them out. They eat anything, grow slow, hide most of the time and are a little aggressive to each other. These days, I see them only occasionally (feeding time) and sometimes don't seen them for long periods of ...

Hey Jools,
You're right, I did the usual and copy pasted the coordinates onto notepad and then onto the profile.
I've also mailed the relevant paper to you.

Re: Indian Biotope
Hey Viktor, Right you are, but I have personally observed that smaller catfish like Erethistes , Pseudolaguvia etc typically die (even healthy ones unaffected by the disease in the tank) when treated with 'harsh' medication. I realise Pimafix and Melafix practically border on placebo territory but ...

Re: Indian Biotope
Lost quite a few fish late last year due to a terrible fungal infection from unquarantined wild caught fish. Deaths included gravid Erethistes , gravid Dario and all the cobitids and Psilorynchus . A mix of Praziquantel, malachite green and Metro could have helped but I avoid using strong medication ...

Maybe Epistylis? Although not directly comparable, I have faced this issue with the mahseer I keep currently, and I have noticed that it typically occurs if I delay filter maintenance for longer periods. Fish will be perfectly fine in the morning but will be completely covered with ich like matter ...

Very nice Eric! I used to keep pothos and sweet potatoes when I was using top filters until a few years ago. The sweet potatoes vines gave a nice look. How did you start with the cherry tomatoes, directly with saplings?

It eats well! :)) Definitely, took a little time to get it on Ken's feed and it has really taken to the pellets. Wonderful to see a 4 year update! Such a fun, high strung fish in your videos. Hard to believe it is a tank decor by day. Any and all movement is only during feeding time, tank decor is ...

BiGMSafV_v0 A blurry video of the Hemibagrus punctatus four years later. The tank is in a nook in the balcony and the sunlight, algae and lack of access ensure the video resembles a found footage horror movie. All the gravel has been swept to one side by the fish and due to the current as well. It ...

Re: Rita rita or R.gogra in a Community Tank?
To answer, tank mates with the R. Gogra were of similar or larger size. At the time Bagrid species along with S.A. predatory species were the focus of my hobby back then. I did get a pair of small R. Rita but they didn't last long. I raised up a S. Aor in same tank to 14" also a B. Yarelli to same ...

Rita rita or R.gogra in a Community Tank?
I have been offered a beautiful 6-7 inch R.rita specimen for sale and was wondering if anyone has kept this species or R.gogra in a community tank. Tankmates will be Indian mahseer (~10 inches), R.chrysea (5-6 inches) and potentially R.kuturnee . I have kept the latter two species together and while ...
