Well, went to the LFS yesterday afternoon to check on him and the BN's (Josh was quarantining the BN's a week while I made up my mind about them). I had to get a clerk to chase the bn's where I could see them properly so I had her chase down the Leporacanthicus as well. On closer examination (now ...

Thank you BOTH! While I can't purchase this cutie for myself I'm hoping that by providing my LFS's manager with the plecs proper name and info, will help speed him to a good home. Josh is a good guy but he has a bad habit of ordering random surprise plecs for me hoping I'll buy them (I'm a sucker ...

Thank you Silurus. I don't recall even the slightest white tinge to the fins. The fish must be a heterodon. What would be a safe estimate of max size for this fish?

I'm not real sure of the adult size of either fish. Are the white patches present at an early age?

And thank you for the quick reply!

What are the differances between...

...Leporacanthicus Heterodon and Leporacanthicus Joselimia?

According to the pics in the Catalog they both look the same to me. My LFS has a Leporacanthiscus that resembles these fish. It is only about 3 inches. How can I tell which one it is?

Thanks!

Seeing as only one plec was acting strange, I doubt this is it, but has your temp always been 82?
I've never kept zebras but my other plecs get a little irritable with the temp creeps over 80 and refuse to hide as normal.

Search the forum, there are many threads describing artifical hatching, and other methods to improve yield. You will also want to search for threads about driftwood and snails, which are also important for fry. How are snails benificial too BN fry? I could not find anything using the search option.

Did you drain any of the liquid off the eco complete before adding it to the tank?

What water type do Bushy Nose plecs come from This depends on the species you have. This could be really hard to find out. I have a piebald and an albino. I have no idea what variety the albino came from though or where to start with the piebald. Any hints? or do I have to cross my fingers and hope ...

BN's and eco-complete?

Yup, I'm still determined to switch my tank to a planted tank and breed to my bushy nose pair. My question is this. What water type do Bushy Nose plecs come from? If I'm using eco-complete, which I think will buffer the water to something close to black water, I'm not clear on this yet, how will ...

Ok, thanks again! Do you know what would make some nice, natural, hiding places that the male might like? Ok, I was figuring 3inches at the least so I still have lots of time to get this setup finished. I was afraid they might actually achieve something before I get the tank arranged so that I can do maintainance on it without bothering them. I hear the male will actually become aggressive towards the ...

Ok, maybe I'm just jumping the gun. Yay, the fish are opposite sexes. Looks like I still have lots of time to prepare a proper enviroment for the couple.

Let's back up a bit.
How big does a bristle nose have to be to actually be of breeding age?

Just an update. It would seem that the piebald is the only one interested in actually doing anything. It won't give the abino a moments peace! Courting already?

I've heard bushy nose were easy to breed but this is just...shocking! I posted awhile back about breeding my piebald bushy nose. Alright, no ideas? I'll rephrase the question. Can you breed Bristle nose plecs in a planted tank, with a ph of 7.0 and medium to hard water.

There ya a go, a yes or no question ;).

Considering breeding small plecs, need advise.

My 6" Rhino died for no aparent reason April 5th. I have since checked the tank and nothing seems to be out of order and the 1" piebald plec and betta are just fine. The 55 would be a temporary place to keep my fish from getting too cramped. My ultimate goal is between 100 to 200. A big enough tank for all the fish. Red fin pleco? Whats its real name?

I cannot not remember the name of this plec. I have the opportunity to buy a 1in 21$ dollar fish. He has a huge tail fin, big round black spots and all of his fins are red (or should be, they're faded pink right now). Almost looks like he could be a lyre tail. I need to know what he is before I ...

Is this really a bristlenose?

I just bought a pleco under the name "Red Bristle Nose Pleco" I've never heard of a red bristle nose before and this pleco is too young to tell. He is under one inch in length. Base color is black with Orange/yellow pattern. He has Orange spots, the outer portion of his tail and head are orange ...
