Is this really a bristlenose?

Post by Manix »

I just bought a pleco under the name "Red Bristle Nose Pleco" I've never heard of a red bristle nose before and this pleco is too young to tell. He is under one inch in length. Base color is black with Orange/yellow pattern. He has Orange spots, the outer portion of his tail and head are orange/yellow and his fins are yellow. He appears to have the same body and head shape as a bristle nose but has no bristles. He is to small to see the armor pattern.

I really hope he is a bristle nose becuase I've been wanting one for awhile and they don't come through my area often, but the colors just don't seem right. Is it becuase he's so young? If he is something else I really need to know what to expect becuase I was planning for a 5" fish not a 2 foot tank buster.

I have pictures but due to his size and my camera you can't tell anything from them. I'll go ahead and post those if you think you can tell anything from a blur :).

Thanks!

Hi!

Sounds like a "piebald" Ancistrus to me. Thought to be a bred color variant.
cheers

At the moment could be either option, wait and see.
