Re: L278 Vs L377

L278 vs. LDA 18/ L377 Both fish are remarkably similar with no typically defining characteristic in either as the differences are quite subtle. I will try to explain the subtle differences as observed by myself and perhaps others can comment as well. An adult male L278 appears to have a slightly ...

Re: L- List Availability in Australia

Add LDA78 to the list Bigbird. My L205 juvies (I bought from a breeder)as they matured have been identified as LDA78's. No they are illegal imports, they were here before laws made it illegal and they can be bred which is why they are still here. On a side note I have had some species which cannot ...

Would prefer, lower nitrates, 10 or less, lower ph 7.2 or less.

Re: L278 Vs L377

Hey Brett I just got 8 L278 yesterday as juvies. You better update your assigned catfish pages as you have missed putting your L278 in as a registered keeper. Quite an impressive list you have. Any tips on keeping the L278? Mine seemed to make a beeline for the cucumber last night despite ...

Males usually pick a good spot in the tank and defend it, then its up to the ladies to come visit.

Re: foereschi whiptails

Girls get the fat belly like the one in the bag photo at a fairly early age so thats the best way.
Boys eventually get a few cheek hairs but no where near as hairy as a mature royal whiptail male does.

Re: foereschi whiptails

They indeed look like LG6 whiptails. Our fish shops here generally just import them as plain old whiptails which is why the confusion. In comparison to other whiptails, they do like a little bit of meaty foods but it doesn't have to be specialised. Bit of occasional bloodworm or similar for a treat ...

Wild guess is 2,4, and possibly 5 males.
1,3 and 6 possibly females but not gravid yet so need to get settled with plenty of good food.

Re: Juvie Synos

Hybrid 3 looks pretty fancy but I am leaning to pic one just being a eupterus featherfin as its more likely. Hybrid 5 Valentine is a lovely name and initially I thought maybe pic 2 may be a decorus but the hybrid 5 looks closer to my juvie photo. I guess we will just have to wait a little while and ...

Juvie Synos

I picked up a quartet of juvenile synodontis at auction last night and there looks to be two of each kind but there was no info on the bag as to exactly what they were. Can anyone have a wild guess for me? Bear in mind this is Australia so our Syno range is probably quite limited. http://i220 ...

Re: Banjo catfish

I found the Clout is a daily dose for 3 or 4 days so I have treated day 2 and held off the uv in case it negates any of the medication effects. I have kept the lights off the banjo and only peeked in occasionally and he seems to have bucked up a bit and is getting around the tank although I don't ...

Banjo catfish

I bought 5 banjo catfish (Bunocephalus coracoideus) a few weeks ago and I lost one a few days later. I figured it was just unable to cope with the freight and new tank adjustment as I tested the water in the 124 ltr (actual water amount) tank and it was ammo 0, nitrite 0, and nitrate 5. There are ...

Re: What sort of Syno is it?

Bear in mind this new syno I got is grossly overweight. I don't think its ever had much exercise before. There are two eupterus in the tank and they are not mature yet, so I am hoping the older robbiana can fit in with them. If not, I can always move him. I think now the rainbow may have hit the ...

Re: What sort of Syno is it?

Its only about 12cm. Could this thing be predatory? One of my native rainbows got eaten. My angelfish suddenly has a loose rear scale and a pearl gourami has a small nip out of its tail. These fish have been all together with my eupterus of 15cm for ages and nothing has even happened to any of them ...

What sort of Syno is it?

I got this Synodontis as a Eupterus, but its not like my other featherfins at all. Its more a browny hue and lacks any feather on the fins even though it is supposed to be 3 years old. For comparison, the last photo is of one of my over one year old Eupterus. http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd85 ...

I caught him! Very late last night which the tank lights off and the room light on, he made the mistake of sleeping in a clump of wisteria right at the very front of the tank. I quietly took the glass lid off, grabbed a good sized net, dropped it in very softly and got it right around him ...

Re: How to catch a cory

The trouble is, once he sees me he's gooonne. I caught a reasonably easy to catch 3cm zebra plec and the tank stayed a little cloudy for two days afterwards. The plants have food tabs under the gravel and if I bump a plant out, this plume of fertilizer comes wafting up. The trap idea sounds good. I ...

How to catch a cory

My corydora tank was doing its usual intermittent egg laying frenzy followed by the egg eating fiesta. This time I managed to grab a couple of eggs and put them into another tank with only otocinclus and whiptails. Well, the eggs didn't hatch although one seemed to disappear and I thought nothing ...

Thanks for the tip kingt, at least that expains them taking a little longer than youngies to settle to a new tank. I got a couple of easy to put in and take out chunks of coral which I hope will stabilize the water ph as the wood and the beaverlike chewing of it is dropping the ph a little low ...

L204 flash

I have a pair of L204 flash plecos I bought a couple of weeks ago. They are adults but exact age is unknown. They don't seem to be very sociable or active. Rineloricaria sp. (L010A) Red lizard whiptail

A couple of weeks ago I bought three Rineloricaria sp. (L010A) or red lizard whiptails. They seem much more active than my three eigenmanni whiptails, and also seem to display their dorsal fins much more. I haven't quite found what their most favourite food is yet, but they don't seem to mind ...
