I have some L-271,or very alike L-271.The have breed. There is 15-20 fry out of their cave. As far as I can tell the are eating and doing well. Question: are the common to be breed, or is seldom? I cannot find anything about breeding those guys. Can anybody tell me where to look?
Cheers.

Hi!

If you are not the first, you are at least one of the few to achieve it... AFAIK that is the first that I heard regarding this species...
If you had some more info to share such as set-up, triggers water T° and stuff that would be great and if you could provide pic as well that would be the cherry on the pie...

Cheers

The male has been fanning for a very long time, without any eggs in the cave, but then the Dec 14 I could see fry in the cave. Cave is a clay-pipe sealed in the end, diameter 30 mm. About 15 centimetrs long. Waterparameters. GH 16 PH 7,0 Temp 27 Celsius. Tapwater. I did not expect them to breed. Size of the adult is 8-9 centimeters. Tanksize 270 Liters, and some current. I have made a littel more waterchange than normal 30-40% weekly and raised temp from 26 to 27. I don`t think that it could trig them. I have not had them for so long time, only from April this year. Feeding with pellets and some bloodworms. Plecos use to need more time before starting to breed in my tanks. I am sorry there are no pics, hopefully next year, and sorry for my poor writing, I have not wrote English for many years.
Cheers.

HI Anders!

Thanks for the information.
What is the rate (liters per hour) of the filtration you use?
Could you tell us if the spawning site was in the current, and how would hit it (side ways, direct..)

The changes in the volume and T° could have been the final touch needed to spawn, if the fish were well fed, and the female has develop many eggs, basically there is much effort to be made to make them spawn...

Anyway thanks for sharing..

Cheers

The rate of filtraion is 1200 liters pr. hour and it is not directet to the cave, but 30 centimeters above the cave. So the spawning place was not in the current. The fry is still looking good.
Cheers.
