I just got a spawn of zebra plecos captured on video. I lack the proper cord to go to my computer. I will get that. What I need is some info on how to post it here. Can anybody help?
Video shows an actual spawning taking place. You can see egg release. Quality is fair. It's not my camera, and it's the 1st time I used it.

I took another video today, of another spawn. I have 2 hours of spawning video. I hope to upload something soon. Finally...I can give something back, to a site that has given SO much knowledge to me!

Depends on what format you've recorded on. Is it a digital camcorder or not? It's harder if not but can be done. Let us know and we can advise - it'd be great to get some video online.

How big is your video clip?

I picked up the wrong chord yesterday. I'll be on it today...again. I now have 8 hours of video. Most of it is pre-spawn activity. I had a few things in particular that I was trying to figure out. The video is good quality when I plug it into the TV. I'm not sure what I'll have after an upload. This is all new to me (with the video)

Im not into vids but my guess would be that youd have to use a major compression codec and cut the movie to make it viewable. My guess (just a wild one) would be that you need at least 2 mb per minute to have an acceptable quality...

You'll need:

a) that cord
b) editing software to cut it down in time and resolution
c) server space
d) software to upload to that server

If you don't have editing software or server space, I'm willing to help, just PM me for my email =)

I'm dealing with some other issues now. AOL was telling my modem is fried...but here I am. Circuit City doesn't have the right cord (that's why they sold me the wrong one). I need a chord from video camera to USB.
I'm sure both of you can help me...but I need to upload info TO the computer. I will figure this out

The lead for a video-camera to computer would most likely be specific to the camera, so you need to find someone that can get the specific lead that your camera needs. [Of course, there may be third party products that work, but my experience is that for those who don't know much about how things work, these solutions tend to be more trouble-some. At least if you have a (say) Sony cable to a a Sony camera, you can call Sony to ask them questions. If you have a Brand X cable with a Sony camera, Sony will blame Brand X, and Brand X will say "Nothing to do with us, Call Sony", and you'll go round in circles until you find someone who REALLY knows the stuff].

I had to install a capture card which had ports for a Fire Wire cable. The videos are up and running. Check out the other posts. Zebra video and barbatus video.

Hey Rich, I believe I mentioned my friend at Auburn (working with Armbruster) would love to take a look at that video to see if they are producing sound (i.e. male pectoral spine movement around the female). I mentioned it to him so he may contact you, hope that is okay. He brought up a video set up, hydrophone, and laptop for me to set up on my tank, but they spawned a few days before he dropped it off so I'll be waiting a couple more days (I guess there are worse things). Just a few questions, because this is some of the behavior I'm observing: 1. Are they starting spawning activity about 2 hrs before lights out or around feeding time (same time for me)? 2. I'm on my fourth spawn and they seem to be going about every 3 weeks if not every 2 weeks, is that about right for you? 3. The spawns are about 7 to 15 (I've only got one female so??), is this what you are getting? Thanks, and see you around, Ben

You or your friend are welcome to contact me anytime! The only background noise you'd hear on my videos...is pumps running. That's why I dubbed over it with music. I have 8 hours of zebra spawning activity on tape now.
I believe that the male pectoral fins are used to lock the female in the cave. The other fins are constantly fanning...which probably have more of an effect to induce spawning. The pre-spawn activity can go on for several days (not hours). It's hard to tell how often my zebras are spawning...as I use colonies of 8-12 fish...and I believe they are eating most of the spawns.
