Here is a simple way to make a spawning mop. Wrap yarn around an average sized book 50 times. Cut one end and tie the other. It you want a floating mop tie a cork to it. Otherwise it will sink to the bottom. I prefer green just for aesthetics.

would a spawning map prevent corys from eating their eggs? will the egg survival rate be higher?
also can this be used for all corys?:)

I've tried spawning mops with several different species. Some prefer floating mops...and some like the sinking. Other species (like barbatus) ignore the mop, and always spawn on the glass.
I use another variation, that I call a hanging mop. I use plastic coated wire...doubled up, so that both exposed ends of wire, stick outside the tank. I use the wire as a hook...which keeps the mop in a stationary position (usually in the corner).
The hanging mop works especially well for panda cories! I've watched a female holding eggs in her pouch for over 5 minutes...because the males wouldn't give her a chance to release them. The mop provides an excellent place to hide the eggs/allows the female to release the eggs/and provides a rest area if she needs time before returning to spawning activity. I find 95% of the eggs in the mop...with the other 5% being placed on the glass, right next to the mop.
Don't bother harvesting the individual eggs. Just pull the entire mop, and place it in the hatching tank. Add a new mop in the spawning tank.
One more note: If you use a sinking mop...AND live black worms, the worms will climb into your mop and live there. The best way to get them out,is to lift the mop above the water (for a few hours) and the worms will eventually crawl out of the mop...back into the tank.
