food for my plecos?

Post by dr_fosg8 »

Let me start by saying this place is awesome. I never knew there were so many different kinds of catfish for the aquarium.

I currently have 2 bristlenose plecos, 1 Chaetostoma cf. Thomsoni, and 1 Chaetostoma milesi. They readily eat algea discs, shrimp pellets, and any flake that manages to make it to the bottom. I was wondering if any of these species would be needing or enjoy a piece of wood to eat on? If so what kind of wood.

Thanks in advance for any replies,

Parker

Chaetostoma are not wood eaters. They don't need the wood (other than to hide under).

If you want more variety in their diet, give them veggies like cucumbers, zucchini or carrots.

Have you ever had any issues with the fish making a mess eating veggies, cloudy water? Or anything like that.

No, but I had a couple other plecos (Hemiloricaria, Parotocinclus) that were in the same tank as the Chaetostoma, so they cleaned up whatever small amounts of veggies I put in there among themselves.

I'd say leave the veggies in there for not more than 48 hours and you should be fine. Toss out whatever the fish don't eat.

Hey everybody,

My plecos don't care for zuchinni too much, but put a slice of cucumber in there and stay outta there way!!!! I also feed them Hikari sinking wafers, algae wafers, and Wardley shrimp pellets.
