Hi,
Of course it is a Hemiloricaria-species.
Peter, can you tell us the length of your fishes ?
H.beni reach just a size of 8cm.

they sure look like beni; I've got 2 pairs.
they spawned too, but the Amphilius ate all the eggs.
Bad Amphilius!
The male in the second pic has this typical line-mask; so even if it isn't a true beni, it's a very close match!

Norman, how can You for sure tell that they are not Rineloricaria?
Thanks

Hi Allan,
Look at Rineloloricaria-species like R.latirostris or R.sp.columbia. This species look a bit stout and the males have all over their frontbody many odontodes on no specific place. The shape of Hemiloricaria-species is an other. They are thinner and the odotodes are on the headsites, the pectorals and some species have it on their back.

Thanks for all the good answers !!
Now I am sertain that it is Hemiloricaria Beni
My adult fish is app. 9cm. + whip
At the moment I've got a male with app. 100 egg's, in a tank for them selves, and the father takes proper care of the eggs. The first time they spawned, I only saved 15 youngsters from my Pterophyllum Altum.
The eggs is every time placed in a ø32mm PVC tube 15cm. long
As far as I know, this fish has never been breeded in Denmark before
Best regards Peter

....They are thinner and the odotodes are on the headsites....
Thanks a lot. So i clearly see that the fish I bought as Rineloricaria microlepidogaster is actually a hemiloricaria.

Actually, Aarhus has been flooded with the fish in my pictures since January 2003, where a local breeder had some succesfull spawns. But he sold them all on as Rineloricaria microlepidogaster.

Hi Allan,
But he sold them all on as Rineloricaria microlepidogaster.
The genus
Rineloricaria was splitted in 2002 into 4 genera. The most species are now in the genus
Hemilocaria. Some species stayed in
Rineloricaria. The other both gerna are
Leliella and
Fonchiichthys with just a small number of species.
Do you have pictures of your fish ?

Unfortunately, I don't have any pics of a straight dorsal view, but I can take that if nessesary. They look very much like Peters fish to my eyes.

Hi Allan,
No, your fish isn't the same as Peters.
I think it could be LG6 oder maybe H.castroi.
Do you know where they set down their eggs ?
