petricola

I got some petricola about a month and a half ago and have never seen them again after I put them in the tank.... they are a nocturnal 1 arent they?.... i love the look of them just kinda bummed i dont get to see them expet for a tail outside of the pots that are in there....

They are nocturnal. Just using room light instead of the aquarium light might help. My tend to be rather shy it seems, if they notice I am there they hide unless I am feeding them. But if I just sit still for a couple of minutes (not right up next to the tank) I will usually see them running all over. I have noticed with mine that the older they get the more I see them out and about. The behaviour you described seems pretty typical. You may also make sure that their is not other fish picking on them. I don't know what it is with Lelupi's but they are always attacking my syno's.

The larger the group of petricola, the more often you'll see them out cruising around, also, IME. I couldn't be satisfied with just a few of them, and by the time I really realized it, I had 24. In numbers like that, they honestly don't care who is around. Then again, you have to have a pretty good sized tank to keep anything else with them ;)

I have I think 8 in a 20 gallon Long with java fern, sea shells and clay pots. and they are alone in it with no lighting on the tank just a glass cover.

Jeff,

A 20 gallon long is a little small for 8 petricola. Are they adult size? If they start to pair off it might get a little rough. I frequently see my petricolas dash about the tank, especially at feeding time.
