Hypancistrus or Panaqolus??
Hi Everyone!
Ok I have noticed that L129 is labelled as a Panaqolus sp , he was before place in the Hypancistrus sp. I do follow quite well what is going on into the catfish litteratures of South America in both magazine and books but I have not read a thing saying it was known now as Panaqolus sp instead of Hypancistrus sp where it seem to belong to.
Any one knows where I can find this and where that was written... I found that strange as it has many particularities that would place him in Hypancistrus
When first introduce to the hobby L129 was thought to belongs to the genus Peckoltia and after several years transfer into Hypancistrus ...
Still I know it has no scientific value as it still is not described but the paper presenting the species who belong to Hypancistrus was a pretty good one!
Cheers

Yann, I've got a few of them, I'll try to get a pic of the dental grouping later tonight... that probably should help the question some...

Re: Hypancistrus or Panaqolus??
Hi
I've never seen L129 in real life, but all the pictures I've seen looks like a Hypancistrus.
I'm convinced that we're on the rigth track :-)

Hi!
I would like to see how the teeth are like as they are pretty different for both genus.
I have also put links to some pictures that I have found around the web:
the first one is from Transfish: http://www.transfish.de/LCode/L129a.jpg
it must be a rather young specimen
the second is from g-hoener:
http://www.g-hoener.de/images/06%20Saug ... wels_d.JPG
not very big either
the last one from Welskeller online: http://www.welskeller.de/angebote/photos/129.jpg
seem to be a bit different
Still all this fish show some feature that would make us think more at an Hypancistrus rather than a Panaqolus...
I will also check with datz mag to see the original picture
Cheers

Oh, so my suspicion on the reliability of the Aqualog has been confirmed!
Thanks, Yann.![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon/wink.gif)
