I need advice re: S. Eupterus, please

I have 2 S. Eupterus in my 55 gal. community tank. The larger (female?) is pushing 6", while the smaller (male?) is about4-1/2". I am planning to re-scape the tank and add more plants and I think I just have too much catfish in there!

Current inhabitants are: the 2 synos, 8 cories, 3 otos, 4 black phantom tetras, 6 cherry barbs, 1 tiger barb, 1 serpae tetra and 1 opaline gourami.

What I would like to do is put the smaller syno in my 29 gal. with 1 opaline gourami, 4 gold barbs, 1 tiger barb and 2 Schistura mahnerti.

I would like to know if you all think the 29 gal would work for the smaller syno. I will of course have driftwood and hiding spots in there for it. I guess I'm mainly concerned with it getting along with the loaches.

Any input is greatly appreciated! :D

It should be fine. I think the loaches would be left alone.

Thanks so much, Silurus! Is it safe to use a net to catch him? What with his long fins and all? Or should I try to get him in a cup?

Thanks again!

There is always a chance of the fish getting caught in the net. Use a very fine net, less chance of getting caught. As you stated better to catch the fish in a container.

Be very careful if you handel them as there dorsal and pectoral fins can cut soft skin very easy.

He/She may even chatter while out of the water if you're lucky. 8)

Thanks Mark & Zebby! I forgot all about the "Squeak". I definitely don't want to handle it if I can help it. This ought to be a pleasant experience (for both of us)!

Thanks again,
Jan
