Also, do the common species of Cory( Peppered, Bronze, Panda, etc) have a C-Number?

All the aqualog catfish publications will also be available through the Catfish Study Group shortly.

All C numbers up to 132 are featured on my site.

Thanks Ian, I've already seen your excellent website, do you know anything about the C-Numbers just marked 'Corydoras sp.'? For example,C8-10, C13 etc?

I've been looking at corycats.com and Google, loads of great information, but I'm a bit confused :? . I can't find any reference to C. Aeneus, C.Paleatus, C.Panda, C.Schwartzi, Brochis Britskii...all the common species. Were these scientifically classified before the C-Number system started, and hence do not need a C-Number? I was under the impression that the C-Numbers included all the Corys. Sorry about all the questions!

The 'C' Number system was devised in Germany by Hans-Gerog Evers, as a way of recognising the ever growing number of new un-described Corydoradinae species that are entering the hobby at an ever increasing rate. All described species have not been given numbers, the reason some of them have a C number is because of their colour variations from the species types, it was first thought they were a new un-described species, but subsequent examination has proved them to be a valid species. The 'C' number remains with that species to eliminate the chance of the further confusion that would be caused by reallocating the number to another fish. There are currently 28 'C' numbers alloted to described species and as time goes by undoubtedly more will be added to that list.
