Anyone have any info on these? I saw some for sale online and I did a google for them and didn't come up with anything at all. Anyone have a pic can you tell me how big they get have they been bred in captivity before? Thanks guys.

A typo for
Synodontis eburneensis, which in turn is a junior synonym of
. However, I'd be surprised if the site is correct on the ID.

Thanks Rusty! I figured it was probably a synonym with something else and thats why I couldn't find any info on it.
It might not be them I think I might order some though. I'll get to find out what they are
They are wild caught so they aren't some strange hybrid.
Any idea how big these fellows get? Territorality? If indeed thats what they are. They are at aquariumstuffers if you want to see for yourself. They are only 14.99 each so I think I'll get 4 or 5 but I'm not positive yet. Thanks again!

The maximum reported size for S. bastiani is 280 mm (11"), but they are only known from the Ivory Coast, from which hardly any aquarium fish exports come.

Thanks Silurus. Anyone have any idea what they might be for real? ~wayne

They are probably juvinile
S. clarias that have been showing up as contaminants in
S. nigriventris lately.
I picked one up for $2.99 not too long ago although they do look allot like the juvinile picture of
S. bastiani! I could understand the possible (mis-) identification.

We do have LFs where is two of these. They came along with other African shipment of catfishes.

We see S. bastiani often enough in LFS and web retailers' sites, so no need to presume that it can't be the real thing.

OK, so does anyone have a pic of a juvinile
S. clarias? Because based on Johnny Jensen's pic of a juvinile
S. bastiani I am having my doubts about the fish I have.
What features am I looking for to differentiate these two species?

Should be easy to tell the two apart, as S. clarias has branched maxillary barbels (which almost all other Synodontis lack).

Johnny's pics are of a young
S. schall, as Erwin posted
here.

That's what I had thought originally but without a good key on hand, I had no basis to determine it one way or the other. My fish clearly matches both Erwin's and Johnny's photos.

I just lost a few juvenile clarias. It got very hot in my basement over the last few weeks. Although they look similar to the photo of S. bastiani their bodies we much deeper.
