It looks like some Baryancistrus sp L19 or Spectracanthicus sp L20

Hey, this is an interesting one! I suspect the fish is not showing its usual colours becuase of the black gravel. Any chance of more pictures, showing the teeth as Yann says but also a picture with all the fins up. There is a small chance here you have something new.

It's important we ID it, becuase depending on what it is, it could have very different diet and care requirements.

One tip that may make id-ing easier: save pictures as .jpg instead of .gif
.gif-images can only contain 256 colors, because of which important details might get lost (especially with smaller pictures) .jpg-pictures can contain millions of colors, making possible much more detail and clarity.


Anyways, that fish doesn't really look like my L020 (since when it's classified as Spectracanthicus instead of Oligancistrus, btw?) I have to add that mine lives in a tank with natural-colored gravel and a lot of light.

Don't rule out L20 to early, Loricariidae can show a great variety of colour depending many factors...

thanks for clearing that up!
Just to be sure: synonyms are outdated names, or names that are no longer valid (in which case I really need to check the info on my own site, lol), or can both names still be used?

And I guess you're right about varying coloration: my L020 looked quite different from now when I just got him. It's just that the black coloration of the head threw me off guard: as far as I have experienced, changing colors aren't concentrated on just one place- like the head - but all over the body (more like a general discoloration/change in pattern).
But what have I seen since I my interest with pleco's got spared, about 6 months ago: not that much, yet.....
