I'm not an expert, but to me they look like L204.

Pretty sure they are not flash plecs (the 204's) they have broard stripes rather than the wiggly lines that these have...

I'd have to agree with CatBrat. Looks like juvinile L-204s to me.

A look at the teeth would confirm it.

How large are they? At under 3 inches they should be showing caudal filaments if they are L204, and the head and mouth shape looks wrong for L204, IMO. The striping is also not as evenly spaced and regular as it is on the L204 I've seen.

I think this is L-129 Hypancistrus sp...not any Panaque.

they are only small - ok - slightly bigger than i thought.

They are 2" tip to tail.

Want to know if they're L-204?
Put some wood in that tank...you'll know in no time. Panaque will start to chew it up, Hypancistrus will not.

the wood is safe... and besides 204's dont look like these.

204's have straight broard stripes.

Having found some photos of juvinile L-204s online(Aquabid actually), Barbie is dead on regarding the caudal fin filiments. These are NOT L-204.

Yes it does look like L129. But to answer some of the other replies. The L204 can have wide or narrow stripes,or even spots and little striping at all.Just check the new agualog that has 18 pictures of L204.

Just as a side note here, that difference in the shape of the markings on L204 is something that changes as they grow. In small fish, they would have dark color and very even striping. It turns dotted as they get over 4 inches, IME.
