Starting a breeding program

I have, for many years, kept corys of one type or another and have always wanted to breed them.
I have been thinking of starting with c. paleatus and then going onto something a bit harder ie c.julii.
My question is, what equipment do i need in order to get them upto breeding condition and then to breed and then to grow on the fry I was thinking of an undivided 48x15x12 plus 2X 48x15x12 split into 2(thats 4X 24x15x12) all running on sponge filters. Would this be to much!! maybe 36in tanks instead of the 48in
Any coments would be very helpful.
Thanks Richard
