Hi jurassic, your lovely pleco seems suffering from external bacteria disease, so the wound appears a bit red in colour. Try to maintain the water quality well and cure the disease using broad spectrum antibiotic or some market available medicines (Sera Baktopur). I got success of curing my plecos using Sera Baktopur.

Hi Mark,

Your pleco definitely looks like he's received a heater burn. HERE is a picture of a pleco of mine that had the same thing happen when I redecorated his tank and the petricola took over his favorite hiding spot. I kept an eye on the site to make sure there was no sign of redness or fungus, and did a few extra 30% water changes that first week. It healed over within 5 or 6 days, and shows no scarring now at all. Antibiotics should only be used if you know there is a specific condition you're treating, IMO. Good luck with him :)

If you want to medicate, you might try Melafix -- any reason that would be contraindicated for catfish? It has a good reputation in the carp community, most don't believe it has any significant antimicrobial action but believe it does help speed up the healing process.
