How do you distinguish one from the other when juvies?

Look for the white edges to the caudal fins (wyckii has them, wyckioides doesn't). There are also slight differences in head shape (wyckii has a flatter head) and color (wyckii is usually darker).

They do seem to have white edges on the caudal. So I guess they are wyckii which I am happy about. I just am still a bit unsure as they are $10 for 3 inch fish which seems really cheap for one from what I have seen. This is usually the cost for a ARTC I understand, but crystal eyed it seems really cheap.
What size of aquarium would be good for a wychii for life by itself?

The only way to be really sure is to post a picture. A 180-gallon tank should be able to hold one for some time, but eventually, you'd probably need a bigger tank later.

I picked up three. I will get some pics, but I am pretty sure they are wyckii.
There is definatley white lines on the caudals and the head is flat like a spade shovel.

wyckioides also has a flat head. When I said flat, I actually meant something like a duckbill kind of flat.
Anyway, let's wait for your pics and see.

You might want to return two. At 3" theyll be fine....at 6", you will have world war III on your hands when the lights go off, even in a 6' tank. That goes for both wyckii and ARTC.

I actually got three because last time I bought 1. I lost him when he got about 6 inches he jumped out of the tank. I have been looking for months for another. Finally was able to order them in and I am not making the same mistake twice. I am aware they are solitary.
Checck the buy sell on every breeder fish forum. Yep thats me.
