Why? They are eaten like any other food fish where they occur natively.
I have not eaten a pleco, but I have eaten my fair share of aquarium fish species (e.g. striped
Puntius, kissing gouramies) and have seen lots more being sold in markets (e.g.
Botia, flying foxes) as food.

I wouldn't ever want to eat a pleco unless I had to. I'm sure they're not bad tasting.

I had fried catfish when I was in Austin, Texas 4 years ago. I tasted a bit like
Chicken

In my experience fresh water fish generally tastes like the water it came from. The freshest, firmest and most savoury flesh comes from clear cold waters, and it goes downhill from there.
I'm sure some of the monsters seen on this site have met a grill somewhere

They are quite tasty. I ate Panaque nigrolineatus in Brazil.
I tried both grilled and deep fried. Both were good but deep
fry would be good for anyone who likes fish and chips or such kind.
Plecos store a lot of fat in their body, so do not eat too many.
They are white meat and tasty in general.

Hi!
Fried catfishes is a common meal often offered for sale in towns in South America, it is like the small Hot-dog seller at the cross of the street in New York...
Loricariidae are not the most tasty catfishes but are a good meal for people without much finances...
Cheers
Yann
