I have built a pond out of a baby pool and have a few africans in it at the moment, i want to put a pair of BN in the pond in hopes that they will breeed again, they bred once but all fry were eaten by other fish, has anyone ever put BN in a pond?

If the pool has a vynal liner I would hesitate to put Bristnose or any other grazing catfish in there.

They will eat the algae off the sides and rasp the liner as well and the 'plastic' dosen't do them much good at all !!!

I would be careful, sometimes the sides are lined with algecide.

I do pond maintainance for a job and frequently use them to help out with some algae problems.They do a good job most of the time and seem reasonably comfortable to a tempreture of 18 degrees c.I've bred thousands in fiberglass ponds quite succesfully.Hope that helps.

Ancistrus have a fairly high oxygen requirement. In hot summer weather as in Georgia you would need aeration, especially at night if the pond is heavily planted.
