Does more protein = faster growth?

Just curious about this, I was reading another post and someone mentioned they had a 8 year old Gibby at about 7". I have one that's about 4 years old yet he's a monster--about 15" and still growing! He lives in a 75gal with an oscar. I was curious about this because when he was about 4", I moved him out of a 29gal and into the 75. As well as the usual greens he started eating the oscar's Hikari Cichlid Gold pellets as well and rapidly grew almost 10" in a year; before that his growth had been much slower. The same thing happened with a L. pardalis I have. Is it tank size, the protein, what? Anyone else observe this?

Hi!

Several factors enter in the growth of a fish:
* tank size
*water quality
*Water Temperature
*crowdedness or not
*food quantity and quality

Negliect one of these and you will reduce the growth rate of your fish...

Cheers

Even with the tank size as a factor, just keep up with the other factors and it'll be fine. From breeders (discus, bettas, angels, etc.) that use smaller tanks, for space savers, as grow out tanks for whatever fry they are rearing up, the tank size didn't affect them at all. Grew up normally with no kinds of deformation. So don't let the tank size limit you. Keep up with everything else that he mentioned, you can grow a fish out normally... Just that when it out grows the tank get a bigger one! Haha :D
