Temperature fore baby ancistrus, maximum growth rate ?

Post by Harley »

Hi
I am breeding common ancistrus, and i have recently had my first spawning of the albino version. The problem is that all of my current tanks are full with normal ancistrus fry, at what temperature should i keep them to maximise their growth rate ? Because they are still to small to be sold to my LFS and i need them to start growing, right now ! (higher temp = higher metabolism, right ?)

I will start powerfeeding and do much more tighter water changes... i need the space for the albino fry!

Not sure about other breeder experience with increasing growth rates however my experience does not lead me to believe that higher temperatures will make any increase in speed of growth. My reasoning for this is that young bristlenose have an extreemly high metabolism naturally and early attempts to increase growth with temperature just resulted in higher death rates. (Although i would be interested in others experience reguarding increasing growth rates)

best kept at the temperature they were spawned in for me an average would be about 26C.

More important factors include quality and availability of food and daily partial water changes of about 30%.
