Use the search, and check the cat e-log. There is a ton of information on this site if go and look for it.

Hello there,

I can't say I've had any real first-hand experience of these hybrid fish, but the chances are a 3 foot RTC and 2.5 - 3ft TSN will top out at around 3ft (36 inches). There is also a condition where hybrid fish actually grow larger than the original species from which they were intially combined. You might end up with a fish reaching well over 3 foot long. I've seen a lot more of these here in the UK over recent months and would like to know the reason why if anybody could shed light on that?
The other issue is that they are being sold near me for about £15 each which is substantially cheaper than a lot of smaller catfish that are more suited to aquarium life?

Cheers

They get bigger due to "hybrid vigor".

You see them a lot in britain i believe because BAS in bolton supplies them to other shops.

I have not seen this species sold from any other distributer.

And they are not even labeled as hybrid catfish. Last time I think the name was "yellow tail catfish" or something like that

There are a few pictures that pop up on the net of monster hybrid RTCXTSN crosses so chances are they grow BIG.

Unfortunatley I saw them labelled up in a shop near me simply as 'spotted catfish'. There was absolutely no information on the fish. I was also told my 8x2x2 tank would be fine to house a small group!!
Luckily I know better, but it still angers me they are mis-sold. I wish there was something I could do about this.

Cheers

Yes, I know. That's what they imported them as from Indonesia, hoping they'd be an interesting little Bagrid! They are minging fish, to use the local vernacular.

I currently have 2 RTC X TSN hybrids,, their growth rate, contrary to what a lot of people said, has been very slow compared to redtail and the tiger shovelnose I have. I also have TSN X marbled cat hybrid and TSN X pim blochii hybrid.

hopefully I wont get flamed for keeping hybrids 8)

here is a pic of my hybrids:
