A tropical pond is just a pond with tropical fish in it. These are most often found in warmer places such as florida. Their temps are the same as a standard tropical aquarium. Since it says you live in canada, I don't think outdoors is reallly an option for you simply because it would be hard to keep the right temps. Otherwise, there is no problem keeping them outside if the temps are consistent. The pond can be any size you want. You can get a 50 gal plastic tub for $50 american or so, or you can have a full fledged pond that will set you back thousands.

OK can I put a Koi in a 50 gal. tub or a channel cat? If not can a sailfin Pim. live at 70F(room temp)? Or maybe a bluegill? Sorry for all the question but its the only way to learn. Thanks Evan

A small bluegill yes, but you would have to get him out of there as he grew. A koi, no because they get way too big for a 50 gal, same thing with a channel cat. I'm not so sure of the temp requirements of the pim, so I can't really help you out there. And remember catfish in ponds is not always a great idea because they can be very hard to see. I have a channel cat in one of my outdoor ponds and most of the time all you see are his black whiskers on the surface looking for food.

What about just a few goldfish? You can get feeders cheap and they grow really quickly.

As far as a tub, try searching for a large water trough at a farm and fleet, something like this perhaps:

There's actually another way to learn. The search button at the top of the page has volumes of information available at your fingertips, or you can also try http://www.google.com. It works great, and gives you more of an overview than you could ever expect people on a catfish forum to be able to give you about ponds. Good luck! We'd love to help you clear up any confusion, but there's a whole internet full of great information that we wouldn't have to type all over again this way ;)
