BAS has just imported some fish under the above name, anyone know anything more about them?
A picture of the same fish can be found on the Transfish site at:

Undescribed Akysis from the Ataran River drainage in Myanmar.
Achim breeds 'em, I describe 'em (description should be published in IEF sometime this year).
Interestingly, there is also an undescribed Laguvia found in the same habitat which mimics the color pattern of the Akysis.

I think it's a diet thing.
They are found in typical Akysis habitat, i.e. fast-flowing hillstreams.

Dunno yet, I'll ask tomorrow. I don't think they're expensive though.

Hi,
They are very red in color, in what kind of water/biotope they were found?
I think it's a diet thing.
Like HH said, this is a diet thing. When i first got mine, some of the fish were brownish, some slightly orange.(The wholesaler i got them from already fed with Artemia Naupli) First i thought this is a sex specific coloration, due to the fact that some of the brown fish were gravid.
In the meantime all of them (females and males) have turned deeply orange, though i feed among other things mainly Artemia Naupli and large Artemia.
This is also known from an
Akysis from Ko-Samui, which also turned orange in captivity (See
Evers 1999). When only being fed with wafers and mosquito larvae the fish returned to their "normal" colouration.
Btw: Don't catch them by hand, a sting from the pectoral/dorsal spine hurts like hell. Some info on the fish also see
here
Greetings,
Achim

I am semi-reliably informed that they are £3.95 each retail.
