Grey spotted pleco identification

Post by Casscats »

Asking on behalf of a friend of mine.

They were sorting through plecos from their tanks and turned up something they did not buy, they think it was from another person who sold it to them as an ancistrus sp, which it is most definitely not ancistrus.

Anywho, been asked my thoughts and closest I can find are in the hypostomus genus.

Here are the only photos I have of this fish, currently appears to be around 6-7 inches.

Hi Casscats,

I too think it's a member of the genus , but since so many of those are spotted fish, without having any collection information or detailed clear photos to show discriminating traits better, I wouldn't even want to dare offering a guess.

Cheers,
Eric

Take a look at . However, as Eric said, without collection information we are just guessing. L192 does sporadically turn up in shipments from the Colombian llanos.

Thank you both @bekateen @Shane
I've passed this info along to my friend. He's hoping it is one of the "smaller" of the hypostomus at the very least, no larger than 12" but he's moved it to his 110g
