Ectoparasites

Not sure this is the right forum for this, but I'm wondering what people are treating ectoparasites with now-a-days? I have a fish with a few ectoparasite hanging onto the caudal peduncle and the tail is slowly disappearing. I suspect it's some type of Argulus sp. Any help would be appreciated.

In the past I've removed them "manually". Not sure if other options (i.e. chemicals) are available.

Thanks for the response Jools, I ended up getting some (illegal) Clout from a shop owner and overdosing the fish. It worked but it worked too well.

I have always had good success using a short formalin dip.

"If you want to use Formalin as a dip on a fish that has NOT been shipped or severely stressed, I would recommend a mere 50-100 ppm (2-4 cc per 10 gallons) for no more than 1 hour, much less if respiratory difficulty is seen."

For anchor worms and fish lice I use Dimilin X. 100% efficient, very mild, but takes time, kills all molting life stages.

It's been over a month since the last post. I imagine these fish are either cured or dead by now. Did you have some new medication in mind to suggest? I'm sure people will have diseased fish in the future, so suggestions might be good too.
