Ancistrus sp. 'Rio Paraguay' egg development

Post by NewPlecoKeeper »

My group of spawned and kicked the eggs, I promptly took the eggs to photograph and hatch my self.

I am unsure of the inital date the eggs were laid but here day one is set to the day i took the eggs from the aquarium.

Day 1, 15. august 2023
Day 1.jpg
The eggs were placed in a hang on breeder box with an aditional airstone. seems like a good clutch.

day 2, 16. august 2023
Day 2.jpg
The eggs are developing, a mass can be seen formin on top of the egg yolk.

Day 3, 17. august 2023
Day 3.jpg
The notochord is starting to become visible in the fry as well as veins.

Day 4, 18. august 2023
Day 4.jpg
The eyes have formed and it starts to look like a little fish.

Day 5, 19. august 2023
Day 5.jpg
The fry has hatched!

This was a good hatch, about 60 fry, and they all seemed hapy and healthy. I did however do a waterchange on the fry tank and they did not handle that. In the end I ended up with 3 fry growing up. My new procedure is to hold of doing water changes for the first one to two weeks.

Hope this was interesting.
