How many Auchenipteridae are known to be cave egg-layers?
Hi all,
I was recently talking to someone about the variety of ways that woodcats breed. is the only species I'm aware of that uses caves for egg-laying. Are there other species of Auchenipteridae that behave similarly? Thanks in advance.
Cheers, Eric

None other documented I don't think. I would be especially interested in D. altae. That said, D. perugiae lives in shallow streams that flow over rocks, so maybe it is a one off.

So far, three species of Auchenipteridae are known to spawn in caves, Duringlanis altae, Duringlanis Perugiae and Spinipterus asci. It will be interesting to see if related species also practice this form of brood care. Now we just need to find additional species of these neat cats.
