Identification Lori
Identification Lori
Merry Christmas to all. I would need an identification. They were given to me as L333 when they were 2cm, but now that 7 months have passed I have serious doubts.

Re: Identification Lori
Hi Mustang87,
Interesting fish. They are definitely a , and there are some varieties I'm not familiar with. These are very nice looking fish.
I don't recognize them as anything typical. My first impression is that they might be a hybrid, for example of a lined Hypancistrus (maybe or , but not necessarily) and a spotted species like or .
I'm not saying they are a hybrid, but I just don't know of any wild forms that routinely look like this. Are these captive-bred? I inferred from your post that they are. Do you know if the person who bred these also kept L201 or another spotted Hypan in the same tank?
Perhaps @Acanthicus might recognize this.
Cheers, Eric

My first thought was . The variation in stripy and spotty patterns in that species matches that of the fish posted here.
What makes you say it’s definitely Hypancistrus Eric?

Re: Identification Lori
Seems closest to but I agree with Eric that it'd be in the group. Meanwhile, it DOES look a lot like and some key features like the shape of the caudal fin you can't see from the pictures. However, at that size, L204 tends to be a lot more boldly marked and, as far as I know always, the white line over the head is set well posterior of the eyes. The eyes also look larger than .

Our hobby is also made up of this, reading your comments and ideas is really a pleasure. I'll probably give them as a present myself because they are starting to annoy L134 a bit, but I liked the pattern and was curious to see what they were.
