I'm considering turning one of my 75g into a hypancistrus tank. Considering getting either six or seven L333 or L173b, not really concerned about breeding, more just something different than the cichlid tanks, and my wife loves any pleco's with black and white stripes. My main concern is if there would be enough activity to keep it interesting. I know they both like caves and hiding, but the last L066 I had was pretty gregarious and would come out to eat during the day. The other option is putting some smaller cichlids like keyholes in with them to have some activity but nothing that boisterous. I've never went all out with a tank like this, so wanted to get some experience.

The safer they feel the more they are willing to come out in the open. Give them lots of hiding places..... caves, rockwork, wood, ect. Maybe some top or midwater fish wouldn't hurt too. I have discus, rainbows, and angels for different tanks for people to look at and keep it more interesting...

What @stuby said. :-BD Also, although not universally true, in my experience they like a little horizontal water current across the fronts of their caves. Consider a wave maker or powerhead.
