Hi, my breeding group of five(2f3m) corydoras aeneus spawned on sunday and monday and the eggs have just started to hatch today. I have succesfuly bred cories in small numbers before but this is by leaving the eggs in a breeding trap in the main tank. I was wondering whether baby corydoras have to inflate their airbags? I have put most of the eggs in a 16"x8"x8" tank with sponge filter(mature), sand, java moss and two halves of a small broken flowerpot. Temp. is 24-25 degrees c, ph about 7. Water is filled up to the depth of 7" (is this to high)? When the cories hatch they lie around on the gravel and then try and swim (or rather they spin) upwards. Thay get about 4-5" and then just stop and sink back down Is this normal?

You shouldn't have much trouble. Some corys do hatch better in shallow water, but I've had aeneus spawns hatch in 29 gallon tanks and grow fine.

I am not sure what day they will start to need air. The albino are transparent and you can see the air bubbles inside them. I have raised C. Aeneus in twenty high. They will be find as long as they have a way to get to the surface. The babies can rest as the top of the Java Moss too. They are species of cories that need shallow water. I have never raised them but have read that C. adolfoi need water four inches or less to survive.
