Don't ask me ...

What color is your Pl*co? I noticed some people relate color change to health, Ph or whatever. i thought I post a little something on color from my own aqua watching. My common Pl*co changes color all the time, I have no doubt this is survival and a way of hiding (No sure why, he knows darn well by now the goldfish aren't going to eat him :? ). There are no changes except mood and position of the pl*co that make him change color.

I thought I'd post a few pics to show this ... these pics are cropped but not photo enhanced or edited. They are also the same pleco on the same day, and on that day I did nothing different to the tank ... also the Ph is stable and this is a healthy tank (fish are active, happy and hungry. water is like glass, not a cloud in it). In some ways the photos don't do him justice, but these pics are close to the real thing. No, angles of shots don't make him seem to change color. Here are the pics of Shark the Pl*co, notice the extreme color changes (and these aren't all his moods :wink: );

On the left is Shark in his Tiger mood and the right would be one of this darker moods. Below is his spotted mood (note: this pic happened only mins after the one above on the right and isn't his best ... he can't do black spots on pure light brown skin). I have yet to get a shot of his sandy mood, (light brown no spots or strips).

thats awesome :) I was going to get some pictures of my common when he changes colors a well. I have yet to see mine do the tiger impression, but he has gone dark and moody before as well as the light and spotty, hehe. He is my favorite cat I think, just because he has such a personality.

Oooh, I haven't seen Pete (my pleco) do the tiger stripe yet! Maybe there's hope for him if it's something other common plecos can do. :wink:

well, I'm glad I was able to share the fun Shark is! As I have posted already the common pl*co (more specificly mine) is so far my fav. catfish. Yes I agree on the personality thing. Sharks tiger mood is not too common ... maybe it's ony when he his on the red slate? or maybe that corner of the tank. I know it's somewhat bare (but I like it that way) heres a little photo of Sharks 30G desktop home (excuse the mess and lack of heater or light - plan to get those for Shark someday. My ultimate fish goal is to start up a large tank of 2or3 peaceful freshwater sharks or imitation sharks, ... Shark (the pl*co) will be responsible for keeping the big tank clean and bringing more joy to life. I haven't had shark that long but I hope I'm doing everything in my power to make sure he outlives me :-) ... sometimes its good to try to over achieve or think big. :)

Also, sure would be really nice to see pics of other people common pl*cos that change color!! If you have em please do share, I know I'm not the only one with a common pl*co that changes moods here so lets see yours!!
