Hello,

I am hoping to get a new tank and there are some fish with it. This includes what the seller described as a "sturisoma catsifish (regal whiptail)" that is 5" long but .5" wide.

I can't find information on whiptails in the cat-eLog (just pics) so I don't know where they come from to ask about them in the relevant section if you know what I mean. There is no mention of "regal whiptails" at all, do they have a different name? Although if I find out where they are from I can ask in the proper place.

We are actually in the process of updating the various Sturisoma entries. I have been e-mailing back and forth with Ingo Seidel to make sure that our information is correct before we post it. From Colombia, the main Sturisoma shipped is S. aureum from the upper Rio Magdalena. There are also a few S. tenuirostre that come out of the Rio Meta and the odds and ends that show up in other shipments, such as the strange Sturisoma that recently showed up from the Rio Atabapo. There are also one, or more, Amazonian species shipped from Peru and Brazil.

All spp. like a slight current and seem to do best in planted tanks. They can be very delicate when first imported, but once they are healthy and put on some weight they seem do do well and are fairly simple to spawn.

Sturisoma are truly majestic catfish , members of Loricariidae.Known as Royal Farlowella in the trade and much sought after.

There are several threads under STURISOMA and look it up under Sturisoma Festivum in the cat-e-log as this is quite likely to be your fish, if not you will soon find it..

They are fairly easy to keep and breed , I am sure you will like them.

But I do not want to breed them and in fact, I will have only one! I just want to know how to look after them.
